This course focuses on the principles and practices for facilitating effective development of oral language, thinking skills, and literacy acquisition in young children. Students will gain knowledge in practical classroom methods, instructional materials, and individualized strategies to facilitate literacy development through a whole language approach with quality children's literature as the foundation of curriculum. This is a lab course that requires direct interaction with a child of the student's choosing.

This course focuses on the principles and practices for facilitating effective development of oral language, thinking skills, and literacy acquisition in young children, Students will gain knowledge in practical classroom methods, instructional materials, and individualized strategies to facilitate literacy development through a whole language approach with quality children’s literature as the foundation of the curriculum.
In some cases a student will be enrolled in the class only or the lab only. While this course was designed to be taken as class and lab together, it can be easily separated. Students in the class only will complete the written discussion board postings that do not require working with a student, in addition to the two final projects.
